Environmental and social impacts
Overall, the program is environmentally beneficial. The provision of safe drinking water and the proper sanitation facilities and construction of basic education and primary health care facilities involve simple, appropriate low-cost technologies that do not pose any significant environmental consequences. The program has been classified to have a significant positive impact on the improvement of livelihoods and the environment, including the reduction of groundwater pollution. Climate Resilience has been built into relevant activities to be carried out on the project in line with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources’ “Partnership for expanded water supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (PEWASH)” strategy. The proposed project takes into account successful integrated water management strategies include among including, among others, protecting, restoring the natural environment at providing at supervision points, use of green energy technology such as solar pumping systems conjunctive use of surface water and groundwater. The project will also promote the use of improved seed varieties that I hailed in drought resistant and early maturing as well as Soil and Water conversion measures to ensure optimal crop productivity in food security interventions. The project also integrates reforestation which will positively impact on the reduction of emissions.
